A few weeks ago I saw Dansk's thread about stem cell donation, so I went to my GP to enquire about it.
He arranged for me to have blood tests to make sure everything was in order and that I wasn't anaemic or anything.
Yesterday, I went back to discuss the results and it turns out that I have a thyroid problem (underactive, I think).
It is easily solved with medication, so I'm not worried. He also wants to check my glucose again and my cholesterol was a little higher than it should be. I'm slim built so I (stupidly) didn't consider my cholesterol.
So, THANK YOU DANSK for your stem donation thread!! I can now get medication for a problem I didn't know I had and I now can alter my eating habits to lower my cholesterol.
I'm not sure now, though if I can still donate stem cells. If I can, I will.

Some people are just so kind
by fullofdoubtnow inwhen our friend marion was baptised a few months ago, trev and i went to the service, and we briefly met a couple there who have become good friends with marion since she has been attending their church.
they seemed very nice people, and since then have occasionally asked marion how we are.
they gave her a lift to the hospital to see me last thursday, and could see how concerned she was about me, i was very unwell last week.

Have a lovely time!
For people to be so kind to you means that you must be a kind, loving person yourself. You deserve it!
All the best,

Give me something to celebrate! (Tell me some good news)
by AlmostAtheist inhey all,.
there are a few "what damage did the watchtower do to you?
"-type threads floating about, and it's easy to get sort of down over it all.

Since leaving the WT, I managed to get qualifications and do my dream job of nursing.
Also, my husband and I have started our own business which is doing brilliantly. (In fact, like Odrade, we need to expand into larger premises).
Contrary to what we were told when we left (that our lives would be miserable and filled with misfortune) we are happy and successful!!

Is belief in God just "wishful thinking"?
by TheCoolerKing inwhen i was a jw i didn't question the existence of god.
there was no doubt that jehovah or god was real.
occasionally though, i did have doubts.

You sound like I did a few years ago! The same questions and doubts as I had.
My belief in God is now equal to my belief in a giant teapot orbiting the planet. I respect people who want to believe, though and I understand that some people need this faith in a god. I personally enjoy and appreciate life a lot more now that I don't believe in god. It's good advice to read as much as you can. I found The God Delusion good, but by the time I read it I was already an atheist through my own reasoning and experience.
Good luck with your dilemma and I hope you find happiness, whatever you choose to believe!!

Why are JWs so disrespectful towards war veterans, etc?
by winnie ini never could understand this.
do they have no respect???.
this subject came up when my hubby was talking to his brother on the phone a couple months ago.

To them, the only acceptable warfare is 'theocratic warfare'.
You can't reason with them!
I had it explained to me as a child when I asked why we couldn't wear poppies etc. "War is wrong, so veterans are disobeying God, therefore they don't deserve respect".
It's black and white to them. -

Hello Toladest,
Let's hope you made those women think about the 'loving' organisation they represent, eh?
Good for you for speaking up!
Take care,

IT IS TIME FOR A___CONFESSION!
by Terry inthere is an old-fashioned definition of the word "confession" which is the public expression of one's deepest faith and belief.. take a deep breath and give a one or two paragraph summary of your deepest belief.. i'll go first.. from the time i was a small child i had a deep and abiding reverence for god as a father.
(my own father i never even met until i searched and found him when i was 25 years old.
) my grandmother had been raised in a catholic convent.

Terry, I was raised as a JW, but never felt totally convinced that there was a loving God.
Now, I do not believe in God. When my husband left the JWs, I was desperate to make the right decision. Should I act on my doubts and leave with him, or ignore them and stay a witness?
I prayed INCESSANTLY for months, crying my heart and soul out to God for some sort of indication that I should stay. Nothing happened, (except more discouragement from the elders.) I then gave up on the JWs.
I even prayed to Jesus, asking him to 'come into my life', but nothing happened. I used to sit in my bedroom window at night pleading with ANYONE out there to help. I even opened the window one night and shouted loudly "Is there anyone there at all, PLEASE?"
I love life and we are a very happy family without religion. We all love science and study nature. We don't overindulge, steal, use foul language (much) or fornicate. Our only 'crime' which causes my parents to shun us is our atheistic thinking.
I did not give up on the concept of God easily, I put up a huge fight for years. When I desperately needed him, he wasn't there!
By the way, I respect those who feel that there is a god. I gave up being judgemental when I left the JW cult.

Last time I flew I sat next to a HUGE lady. She was unable to pull down the food down and my armrest next to her had to stay up. I've nothing against large people, of course, but I had an upset tummy and needed frequent trips to the loo. Every time I felt sick, I had to ask this poor lady (she was very patient)to get up and into the aisle, which took about 5 minutes. How I wasn't sick on her I'll never know! Luckily it was only a 4 hour flight!
Therefore, I suggest an aisle seat!
Have fun in Dallas!
